If you have been in network marketing for quite some time; you will know that 90% of everything your upline told you was a complete lie.  Network Marketing is a lot harder than what your upline led you to believe in the beginning.  They promise you they were going to help you every step of the way and that they were going to hold your hand through it all.  They must have forgotten to tell you how they struggle in the beginning too.  I know this revelation would have saved me some frustration.  If you are struggling getting leads and generation income; don’t worry this is just a growing pain.  If you stay in this business long enough; you will get past this stage.  Today I am going to expose the seven sins of network marketing.

Marketing a company’s replicated website

Promoting your company’s website online is a huge no-no.  I know I did this when I first decided to take my business online.  I knew better at the time because of different sources I’ve read and study; but it was hard to deprogram myself from what I was taught.  If you are marketing your company website on the internet; how are you going to capture your leads information?  Even if your company website does have their own opt in box; people do not do business with people they don’t know or trust.  Everyone is so afraid of scams or being scammed on the internet.  When some people think of MLM; they immediately think of a pyramid.  They are unable to differentiate between the two.  Build value and trust with your downline by offering them something unique.  Offer them your own unique selling proposition (USP). 

Work hard for 30 days and the rest is play time

If owning your own business was that easy everybody would be doing it.  Unless you have done this before or a really great people person; it is going to take you longer to build your business.   Do not be discouraged if it takes you longer than others to learn the skills it takes.  Everybody learning curve is different.   If you really want to build your business online; it will come if you do not quit.   ”Life’s real failure is when you do not realize how close you were to success when you gave up” (Anonymous ). 

Our company is well branded

I hear this all the time; our company is 10 years old and has been indorsed by some of the greatest people in the media.  Our system sells itself; plug it in and let it do the work.  If it was that easy; they would not be promoting it every day and begging you to join their downline.    Even if the company is well branded; why would they join you and not someone else promoting the same program?   Your business is the last thing people care about.  They want to know if you will be there to help them along the way and they want to know if they can trust you. 

Chase family and friends

This is my favorite.  Go through your warm list; write down all the names of your family and friends and tell them about your business.   If you go around chasing family and friends; you will stop getting invited to family functions.  Everybody is not cut out for this business.  Network marketing is definitely not for whiners.    You know your family and friends better than anyone.  Why would you consider doing business for them?  No wonder why network marketing has a 3% success rate.  We are continually being fed lies by our upline who wants to feed us inaccurate information on building a business.  I can guarantee you they have a low retention rate doing business this way. 

Cold calling

Cold calling and buying leads can work to build your business; but it is not necessary. There are a lot of companies out there that claim to have the best quality of leads; but in actuality they don’t.  People waste lots of money buying leads and do not have a single signup out the deal.  You have to be careful who you buy your leads from.    If a person fills out information online; that does not necessary mean that they want to join a business.  I know I have filled out lots of information online; but that does not mean I am expecting a phone call.  I actually dreaded phone calls in the past.  I hated to put in my phone number; and some people are the same way. 

Promote your business

This sin ties into promoting your company website.  Amateurs promote their business and Top Earner’s promote themselves.  IF you want to be a millionaire; start thinking like a millionaire.  If you want to be part of the 3%; start doing your business like the 3%.  People do not care about what business you in or what the latest anti aging products you have.  Have you ever had someone calling you telling you how great their business was and how terrible your business was?  If it is so great; why are they shouting in my ear begging me to join their team?  I should be begging them if it’s that great.  “My comp plan will blow yours out the water”.   When people say that, it makes me laugh.  How do they know their comp plan will blow mines out the water; if they do not know what business I am in.  Your comp plan is important but it is not the deciding factor.  It does not matter how great your compensation plan is if you do not know how to generate your own leads.  Without people in your downline; you will never be able to enjoy your comp plan.

Network Marketing isn’t sales

Saying that network marketing isn’t sales is an understatement.    This is definitely a people’s business.  If you want to recruit people; you have to understand people.  You have to understand what makes them tick, what are their hot spots, their wants and needs; you have to understand their personality traits, etc.  Network marketing is about building relationships and building people.  You have to learn how to sale yourself.  What do you have to offer your prospects; that no one else can offer them?  You have to find the value in yourself and present that to your leads.   Some successful network marketers have had a career in sales.  If you haven’t don’t worry, you can still learn the traits of a successful network marketer.

It is important to build your own list and not your business list.  Even network marketing companies sees the importance of building your list.  The way businesses make their landing page has change so much over the years.  Lots of network marketing company’s come with their own auto responder and you can now enter in your information and do not have to make a purchase right away.

If your company does come with its own autoresponder, you still should not drive traffic to your companies replicated website.  If your company disappears or you decide to leave that company; so do all of your contacts. 

It is very important to drive traffic to your own website or your own blog.  It is important to have your own autoresponder. 

People do not link to be sold.  Make sure you offer them lots of value.  Once they are about to trust you and they do not view you as another salesperson.  They will want to do business with you.

If you are still promoting your replicated website; please stop.  I know it’s hard to change some behavior that you have been taught.  You and I both know promoting your business over you do not give you a lot of credibility.
